We are now one week into June, which means I’ve given myself ample time to sit with all of May’s releases and compiled my Top 10 for the month. If you read this list and say “what about _____!!” I will say that there were many albums I genuinely liked and spent time with that didn’t make it on the list. There’s also the possibility that I didn’t hear what you love - in which case tell me!! My music listening totaled 10 full days (plus one hour!) In the month of May so know, at the very least, I’m TRYING Jennifer.
How Will Tariffs Affect Coffee Prices?
by Daniel Idfresne
President Donald Trump is reorienting American tariff policy and the global trade order at a breakneck pace, making it difficult for ordinary Americans to understand how their lifestyle may change under Trump’s grand vision. Coffee — a staple of American life — is no exception.
Three-quarters of U.S. adults have had coffee in the past week, with the typical consumer drinking about 3 cups daily. That’s approximately 1,095 cups annually. Collectively, Americans consumed 1.62 billion pounds of coffee last year. Now, coffee joins the ranks of once-unquestioned staples—like hygiene products, baked goods, smartphones, alcohol, and video games—whose affordability is being challenged under the Trump administration.

Beets Us!
The Beet Bowl is back for the summer. A perfect blend of watercrest, beets, cottage cheese, and basil pesto–all mixed with our house made savory granola and topped with balsamic. It's a perfect lunch for a hot summer day. Available every day in our cafe. Plus, if you're in a hurry, you can order one to go online!
Summer Coffee Lineup
We have a crazy lineup of single origins this summer. Two direct trades–favorites from last year, and a brand new coffee from Tanzania. These coffees have wildly diverse flavor profiles. It's worth trying them all. We'll be brewing them in the shop all summer long, plus they're available online as always. You do not want to miss this.
Available Now
Agua Fria: A direct trade with Honduras. It's a classic washed coffee. It's a little nutty, with a touch of brown sugar and notes of ripe fruit to round out the cup. This brew is a perfect daily driver.
Acacia Hills: A brand new offering for us. Typically, this is the time of year when South American harvests hit our shores, but we wanted to diversify the menu a bit with this coffee from Tanzania. It has sharp notes of grapefruit and pear, with a little bit of black tea. We just released it, but it's sure to be a returning favorite.
Coming Next Week...
Development Lot: A mad cocktail of fermentation experiments from our friends at Unblended Coffee in Colombia. This lot is an explosion of red fruits, berries, and cacao. It's full bodied and rich. Every year, this coffee is unlike anything else we offer.

Ethiopian Coffee Revenues Up
As the market continues to shift in unpredictable ways, Ethiopia is looking at a brighter year for its coffee exports. With lower output from Brazil, the leading global coffee supplier, eyes are turning to Ethiopia as an alternative. A number of factors are contributing to this. First, Ethiopia's government has been increasing infrastructure and support to its smallholder farmers.
Second, the US tariffs on Ethiopia have been relatively low compared to other coffee-producing countries. This means that even if Ethiopian coffee is historically more expensive, the current trade policy has made it more competitive.
Agricultural Financing in Honduras
Algrano just released some valuable reporting on Banco de Occidente, the country's primary lender for agriculture, which is under new ownership. Interviewing multiple producers on the ground, they heard that the bank is severely restricting the credit it offers producer co-ops and holding entire warehouses of coffee as collateral.
According to the article, the situation is complicated, as financing is an important driver of coffee production. In the past, the bank would lend out money for an entire season at once. Now, they're giving out loans for individual contracts. This change leads to a bottleneck. If the loan can't be repaid midseason, it keeps co-ops from the financing they need for the rest of the season.
Algrano is an importing company that goes above and beyond in the transparency they provide to both roasters and producers. During their visit to Honduras, they also met with Finca Terrerito, one of our sourcing partners. Read more about the lending crisis and Finca T below.
