Salted Caramel Begins This Weekend

It's here for the holidays. Our sweet and buttery seasonal drink is launching to get you through shopping sprees, ugly sweater parties, and crowded flights. This beverage will warm you up just as we're anticipating the winter. The sun may go down before 5pm, but the light really does shine brightest in the dark.

Holiday Mix 🎄

Back by popular demand! This year's edition is a little different than last year's. This is the first time we've approached "dark roast" territory, but don't let that scare you! We haven't burned the life out of these beans, they still have complex notes of spiced honey and dried cranberry along with a rich body. However, we want something for a limited edition blend that pleases the whole family. Adding just a bit of that roasty flavor makes it cozy for the cold weather, and the perfect coffee to brew in large pots for your holiday gatherings. We think you're going to love it. Don't believe us? Come into the shop and give it a try!

Aeropress + Mogiana Gold

Now available on our website! Get a brand new Aeropress Original plus a bag of Mogiana Gold in one bundle. The Aeropress is a portable hand brewer that can be used in a variety of recipes. It brews smooth, rich, grit-free coffee with a delicious, full-bodied finish that lingers well after your last sip. Plus, it's easy to take anywhere.

We're bundling it with an old favorite, a smooth and chocolatey single origin from Brazil. You cannot beat this pairing, and it would make a perfect gift for your coffee-loving friends.

News and Special Interests

Blockchain Used to Make Coffee More Traceable
This is somewhat old news, but we stumbled on it recently. I have not seen this implemented by any importers or farmers we work with, but the blockchain definitely brings the potential to make the supply chain more traceable. We'll be keeping an eye on this startup to see if it goes anywhere.

Turning the Page on Alt Milks?
Preview: "The main takeaway here is not the vilification of alternative milks, which feed a real dietary and ecological need for some, nor is it that cow’s milk is no longer problematic in the ways it was five years ago. It’s that a high-quality diet low in processed foods is the best, healthiest option. For you that may include oat milk or it may include cow’s milk or maybe both. "

As reported here by Sprudge, new health concerns about milk alternatives have caused a pushback against the decade long trend. The main cause for concern is both the sugar content and the emulsifiers in milk alternatives, which could be linked to diabetes. However, it's always important to remember that these stories are generally reported after only one or two studies, as is the case here.

Major Coffee Buyers Are Buying Sustainably (kind of)
We always like to share positive news. Reported by Roast Magazine, 73% of coffee from nine major coffee buyers, including Peet's and Nestle, hit a sustainability baseline. This is up from 53% in 2021.

It's important to put this information in context. This is a sustainability baseline, meaning there is still room for growth. Also, these are self reported metrics, and it varies year by year which companies reported.

Still, out of 1.88 million metric tons purchased, 1.39 million met the sustainability baseline. Not a bad benchmark for progress.
